The best RPG ever, even though the RP part is missing?
Well this is my first post I'm still roaming the newbee areas and have yet to discover an eight skill so maybe I'm wrong but every atempt I've made to role play or even talk with some stranger I've not been hunting/trading with has failed.
Sometimes when I've asked for help or the other way around something resembling a "RL discussion" has accured. I know from expirience that most people don't put in effort in talking or socializing in the begining of the game, as do I. But never this much.
Will I see this patern in the future aswell or will it change as I advance?
Besides from this the game is realy good, the quests are indeed fun and interesting and the graphics I love. Like the title says, I think that this RPG is the best though the RP part is almost gone. But nothing the game makers can do about realy :/
My thanks to the developers Keep upp the work!

hey get on over to teh Sardelac Sanitorium in this forum; some of us are asking for a Role Playing district in each town; much like you have the Internation Districts. So we could always go to the RP districts and stay in character, and then when we want a RL convo we can just go to a 'normal' district.

One option is to join an RP guild, and simply turn off local talk.

Plus, the completely instanced worlds make for a great rp setting, with no idiots to mess it up.

There isn't a single MMORPG on the market that gives a crud abou the role playing community. There have been a few attempts to superficially throw a bone to roleplayers with so-called role-playing servers. However, none of the MMORPGs do anything remotely resembling enforcement of keeping an atmosphere on these servers suitable for roleplaying. The role playing servers are just as filled with l33t dOOds filling the public channels with l33tsp3ak spam is the regular servers.
Matter of fact, it looks like even the coming D&D MMORPG will do basically nothing to support roleplaying, either. If you can't get the MMORPG based on the game that defined the whole concept of role-playing games to provide a little enforcement of a role-playing friendly environment, then nobody is going to support roleplaying properly.
You want real roleplaying, you're still going to have to go to a text-mud that enforces a RP-friendly environment.

The only way you can enforce it is employ people to police the districts. No company is gonna want to do that. Someone I know used to play a free UO shard where they had a GM on all the time to make sure no one spoke out of character; if they did, they got banned.
Problem is that most level up games are called RPG's and so many people who play them (most probably) don't care about real RP, they just make the characters. Or they RP the way I do in Sacred; I still talk like me but I decide "Right this char only likes using this type of weap so no bows for me, even if they're twice as powerful" or things like that.
Another suggestion that was made (by me i think ) is simply to add another chat channel; the roleplay channel. Ok we'll still get morons spamming us with trades, but at least we can turn all others off and those people that think rp-ing is 'stupid' can turn off the rp channel

I belive the idea of a new chat and 1-2 new "RP" districts are great. I hope some GMs could be hired (for a litle pay or maybe free expansion packs?) so that they could ban those who don't obey the rules in those districts.
I remember before UO got bought by EA. The original company always had fun stuff happening, they had a sea monster, they had pirates, they had everything! It was truly a role play atmosphere. OOC was allowed ofcourse but no one was spamming and ****ing around without a reason. Those who didn't role play respected those who did and it was paradise on the internet
The biggest problem with promoting RP in this game I think is that it is made exacly for getting stronger and more powerfull so that you can win wars. People only think on leveling/power gaming and stop role playing. That's sad :/
Can't we get some people to send the creators the same mail, about a new RP district and a RP chat. Then they will listen I hope

thats true. but then again once you get to level 20 you may be more inclined to roleplay, since you can't level anymore. Maybe they would do it even in the sense that "i have this sword that does this damage; wonder if i can find one that does the same damage but matches my armour" or something. That would be better than nothing lol.
A mail to the creators is a good idea, we should all send that in. In the mean time we could make a thread in the rp section of this forum I guess and post our in-game names so that we could look out for each other and meet up to rp.

Playing style:
(*) Student / Trying to learn the game
( ) Power leveler / Ascend as fast as possible
( ) Explorer / See the entire world, do all the quests
( ) Role player / Try to stay in character at all time
( ) Farmer / Collect gold and cool items
( ) Social / Hang out to chat and emote
I think it would be great if we got a way to specify our playing style, like above. The game should then try to put people with similat style in the same districts (when there are enough). It should also be easy to see the style of other players.
A party with both a power leveler and explorer is not going to be fun for either one.

You forgot:
Funlover / Do everything, get everything and see everything just because
Unless that would be put under Explorer...

Yes, that would be explorer. Everybody are (hopefully) funlovers, it is just different things they think are fun. I actually first thought of funlover for what I ended up calling social.
You probably should only be able to tick one of the radio buttons for the system to work.
BTW: I'm a explorer too, I ticked "student" to indicate the default value, so that beginners in general would end up together with other beginners. Learning the game together is most, eh, fun.

I wouldn't want an RP server, my fav bit is exploring, I love seeing all the sites of the fantasy world, however I like trading and hanging out chatting, but I also enjoy my PvP, which wouldn't be in an RP server, or would it?
